Enhanced and Stronger gut immune system and general immune system function
The colon, instead of being the waste organ — which is what was once taught in medical school — is instead a robust major health organ. It is powered by the thriving bacteria factory which itself is nourished by the prebiotic fibers that we ingest.
Prebiotic fiber is a type of carbohydrate that we as humans do not digest. That said, our gut bacteria thrive on prebiotic fiber, as it allows them to reproduce, and enhances their ability to make various products that are so important for our health.
Much of the work on prebiotic fiber has been done using the animal model, typically mice, in which administration of prebiotic fiber has been shown to have dramatic and positive effects upon the gut bacteria. Beyond that, positive metabolic effects are seen as well.
Prebiotic fibers have the ability to alter the gut microbiota in a positive manner, indicating their promise as a dietary treatment
What Do We Know Now About the Health Benefits of Prebiotics?
Well, you see the big picture. Eating well with the health benefits prebiotics provide — in addition to the right foods — might make a big difference in your life in many ways.
Immune-modulatory effects of dietary Yeast Beta glucan are clinically proven.Natural yeast Beta Glucans are the most well tolerated type of beta glucans.
Many investigations on the immunomodulatory effects of β-glucans were performed using parenteral applications. In the meantime, those effects have also been shown for orally applied β-glucans. Therefore immune stimulating effects may be achieved by dietary intake of yeast β-glucans. Despite those positive effects the European Food Safety Authority did not accept health claim applications of β-glucans in the area immune system. Based on several weaknesses regarding study design and statistical evaluations the panel concluded that a cause and effect relationship has not been established.
β-glucans from yeast are recognized by immune cells within the intestinal mucosa, amongst others by the dectin-1 receptor. Dectin-1 receptor activation induces several immune-stimulating effects important in the defense against invading pathogens. Furthermore, following uptake of β-glucans via dectin-1-stimulated phagocytosis, degradation processes within macrophages may make β-glucans systemically available.
However, not all β-glucan preparations have the potential to stimulate these reactions. In order to be able to activate the dectin-1 receptor cascade, β-glucans must comply with specific structural properties. It seems that insoluble, particulate (1,3)-β-glucans with 1,6-β-branches are able to activate this cascade, while soluble ones activate the antibody-mediated complement system via the CR3 receptor.
Clinical trials performed with dietary insoluble particulate β-glucans have demonstrated positive effects on the immune system. Therapeutic efficacy results for orally applied soluble yeast β-glucans are not yet available. Whether or not the soluble fraction of the yeast β-glucan, when orally applied, is equally active when influencing the human immune system needs to be proven in confirmative clinical trials. So far, this has only been shown for the insoluble fraction.
All the performed human clinical trials demonstrated that intake of β-glucans isolated from brewers’ yeast is very well tolerated. Based on the clinical trials presented in this review, an increased intake of dietary β-glucans might help to improve immune functions
Omega-3 is also known to reduce the pathological manifestations especially in diseases related to inflammation, allergy and autoimmunity which are the major challenges today.
Earlier studies on effect of polyunsaturated fatty acids in immune system were conducted using animal systems; in this chapter, more emphasis is given on human studies. n-3 PUFAs have been shown to be very effective in controlling inflammation by affecting extravasation, phagocytic response, generation of cytokines, inflammatory mediators and adhesion molecules. They also manipulate the functions of antigen-presenting cells and lymphocytes including T and B cells, NK cells, LAK cells and also T regulatory cells. Most of the reports on effect of dietary omega-3 in human health have been conducted as clinical trials, extrapolated from experiences in animals and also using in vitro techniques, which have limitations. The chapter reports trials conducted to assess the effectiveness of omega-3 diet supplementation in healthy volunteers using in vitro and in vivo assays. It also deals with the effect of omega-3 diet supplementation on pregnancy and lactation, especially in relation to infant allergies. Cognizance has also been taken of the effects of omega-3 diet supplementation in aged population. Finally, the chapter reviews important literature on the effectiveness of n-3 PUFAs in controlling inflammatory and autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), psoriasis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
100% vegan omega-3 rich in EPA and DHA fatty acids.
It can be difficult for vegans and vegetarians, especially, to get enough essential omega-3 fats from food alone. That’s because vegetarian sources of omega-3 provide only ALA (alpha-linolenic acid), a precursor to omega-3s EPA and DHA, which our bodies can’t efficiently convert to the EPA and DHA they need.
Bovine colostrum supplements have become popular in recent years, as they promote immunity, fight infections, and improve gut health.
Colostrum is reach in imunoglobulins which provide huge benefits to your body, such as:
Their proven benefits after many decades of studies are:
What is Echinacea? Echinacea, also known as the purpleconeflower is a member of theAsteraceae (daisy) family. Itis one of the most popular herbal medicines with an estimated 1-4% of the general population using the herb in a given year. The medicinal properties of Echinacea were first recognised in the eighteenth century by Native American tribes who used the plant to treat snake and insect bites, coughs and colds and typhoid fever. Echinacea has numerous claimed medicinal properties including: anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-oxidant, anti-carcinogenic, anti inflammatory and wound healing properties. Its popularity today is fuelled by claims that it has immune stimulating properties and can reduce the severity of symptoms and duration of the common cold and flu, especially if used in the early stages of infection. Although there are around nine species of Echinacea, only three of these have attracted interest regarding their medicinal properties, E. purpurea, E. angustifolia and E. pallida.
How does activated charcoal work?
Activated charcoal works by trapping toxins and chemicals in its millions of tiny pores.
The porous surface of activated charcoal has a negative electric charge that causes positive charged toxins and gas to bond with it. It’s important to note that activated charcoal is not charcoal used in your braai. Braai charcoal is loaded with toxins and chemicals, and should never be consumed!
Benefits of Activated Charcoal:
They contain a range of beneficial plant compounds, unrivaled by other foods.
Studies have shown that they may have several benefits for your body, possibly lowering your risk of various diseases
MSM is widely used in the alternative medicine field and by people looking for a natural way to relieve joint pain, reduce inflammation and boost immunity.
More recently, marshmallow has been used to treat certain digestive disorders, including heartburn, indigestion, ulcerative colitis, stomach ulcers and Crohn’s disease. The mechanism by which it soothes sore throats applies to gastrointestinal mucosa as well and regular consumption of marshmallow can help with the pain of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s, and prevent stomach ulcers from perforation. Marshmallow extract is sometimes added to creams and used to treat inflammatory skin conditions, such as eczema and contact dermatitis. Additional uses are currently being investigated. Marshmallow may be a helpful aid to radiologic esophageal examination. There is tentative evidence that marshmallow may also help with respiratory disorders such as asthma. Researchers may soon test marshmallow as a natural alternative to blood sugar management in diabetes.
Mechanism of Action
Marshmallow works as a mucilage, producing a thick sticky substance that coats membranes. Marshmallow extract contains flavanoids, which contain anti-inflammatory properties. The flavanoids are able to reduce inflammation while the mucilage holds them in place and prevents further damage. The extracts also induce phagocytosis, which is the process in which certain cells engulf bacteria, dead cell tissues or other solid particles. This helps speed up the healing process. The mucilage remains unaltered until it reaches the colon, which is why marshmallow works well on most inflammatory digestive disorders.
Healthy guts are the foundation of a general health and a strong immune system
You may have heard a lot about galactooligosaccharides (GOS) recently and wondered what they are?
GOS prebiotics are derived from the lactose in cow’s milk. They are a type of fibre which feed good bacteria in your large intestine. GOS has an advantage over other types of prebiotics, (e.g. inulin, oligofructose, fructooligosaccharides (FOS)) as it can give a prebiotic effect at a low dose.
Higher doses of prebiotics may increase gas production in some people, so nourishing your good bacteria at the lowest dose can be important.
All these benefits, promote the good health of your body’s immue system.
Training and stress can be harmful for your immunity, as they both increase the free radical concentration in your body.
Free radicals damage healthy cells and make your body more vulnerable to viruses and diseases.
Also, oxidative stress caused by overtraining, stress, smoking, bad food etc, is proven to be related to many age-related diseases, bad mood, depression, poor life quality, low energy and sport performance.
In a research review published in 2017, scientists sized up 33 previously published clinical trials and found that andrographis appears to be beneficial for relieving symptoms of acute upper respiratory tract infections when compared to other herbs, standard care, or a placebo.
Andrographis (Andrographis paniculata) is an herb long used in traditional medicine.
Also known as “Indian echinacea,” andrographis is a bitter-tasting herb rich in compounds known as andrographolides.
These compounds are have anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antioxidant properties.
Among other benefits of this herb, it is proven to help the lung function and the general respiratory function.
Preliminary evidence suggests Pelargonium sidoides can reduce the duration of the common cold, while treating symptoms. It may also provide benefits for people suffering from lung disorders, by alleviating flare-ups in symptoms.
Pelargonium sidoides has anti-infective properties. It prevents bacteria from adhering to cells, helps fight viruses and stimulates the immune system to hunt down invaders.
Pelargonium sidoides may be able to fight Helicobacter pylori infection, which is the stomach bacteria that causes stomach ulcers. Pelargonium sidoides may also reduce the replication of the herpes simplex virus.
